I'd like to introduce you to J.D. Hill, one of our cast members in For A Purpose: Hope in a Broken World. It's been such a pleasure to get to know J.D. You can't talk to him without being encouraged. He is always praising God and is grateful for life.
All Pro, All American J.D. Hill has seen the heights of success and the lowest of lows. At Arizona State University, he was a force of nature, lettering in baseball, football, and track — his NCAA record still stands today. In 1971, J.D. was drafted as the 4th overall pick in the first round by the Buffalo Bills and was later selected to the Pro Bowl for his outstanding play. However, after he left the NFL, he fell into a life of drugs and destructive behaviors. We share J.D.'s inspiring story in For A Purpose. He is where he is today because of the incredible faith, self-sacrifice, and commitment of his wife and friends. His story is a powerful example of how God worked through others to save his life. Of the importance of accountability. The importance of community.
Today, J.D. has a non-profit called Catch The Vision and is actively involved in teaching and counseling at the Phoenix Dream Center. There, he helps others who have gone down the destructive path of drugs. During my interview with J.D., he said:
"I like to say that the experiences that I encountered in my early life were blessings for today. Because I have an opportunity that God has allowed me to share my experience in hopes that it will save another life."
I've watched J.D. teach and, in a couple of weeks, we'll be filming his work at the Dream Center. It's so encouraging to hear how God is moving and changing hearts there. As we tell his story and the stories of our other cast members, we fully trust that God will use For A Purpose to change and save lives.
J.D. sees God working at the Dream Center. He shared with me:
You can tell when the change is coming by the way they talk and the way they act. The way they walk. You can see the change taking place and they fight it sometimes, they fight it. But the change is taking place because they’re listening to messages of hope, they’re reading the bible, they’re learning scripture, they’re not using the drugs, they’re not around the same friends.... And that change takes place and that’s a beautiful thing."
We are able to tell J.D.'s story and to make this film thanks to the generous financial support of donors for whom we are so grateful. If you're able to help, please contact us or use the button below to make a tax dedictible donation via our fiscal sponsor. Thank you!
