Are You Being Called "For A Purpose"?

For A Purpose is a feature documentary film currently in production. It will examine the extraordinary ways that God works in the hearts of people who have endured incredible hurt, pain, or suffering. How such experiences have produced uncommon strength and attitudes to reveal God’s grace, love, and power in their lives. Responses that, apart from the power of God, are difficult to comprehend.

The film will explore many types of pain and suffering, including emotional, physical, mental, and psychological, and how responses to such experiences shape the direction of our lives as we try to make sense of our experiences.

How can someone embrace suffering and grow closer to God through it? How can someone’s heart learn to love and serve others after they’ve experienced unbearable pain or suffering? How can someone forgive that which seems unforgivable? Stories that point to an active God working in the hearts of people to show an incredible hope that is bigger than the pain.

The relational stories in this film will showcase uncommon responses to suffering and miracles of the heart while also addressing questions of doubt and disbelief. Charles Colson said, “Our hope is in the power of God working in the hearts of people.” We will examine what that hope looks like.

If you feel you may be being called for a purpose, we’d love to connect.

We are actively seeking funders, supporters, and partners. We are praying over needs for funding support as well as other needs and more.

About the Filmmaker

Jim David is an award-winning filmmaker and skilled storyteller. Among the numerous recognitions of his work are two regional Emmy Awards. An experienced director who got his start as a commercial photographer, Jim has been successfully creating short films for the last six years. His goal is to influence perspectives and affect change through authentic, powerful storytelling.

Recently, his short film, A Strong Finish, won the Best Documentary Audience Choice award at the 2021 International Christian Film and Music Festival. The film was also an official selection of the 2021 Christian Worldview Film Festival and it has been nominated for an International Christian Visual Media (ICVM) Crown Award.

A Strong Finish tells the story of how God was moving in the life of a man as he faced an uncertain future during his repeated battle with cancer. The response to the film was remarkable and it was clear that the Lord used—and continues to use—it to impact many lives. Making the film had a big impact on Jim’s life as well as he was dealing with his own struggle of a complication from surgery that resulted in significant permanent hearing loss.

After many requests for similarly impactful stories and to address this difficult but all-too-important topic in film, Jim decided to direct and produce a full feature documentary. He is committed to telling the stories of hope and encouragement that exist in the midst of suffering, while addressing the questions, doubt, and disbelief that so many experience when facing struggles.

Jim’s work has represented brands worldwide. As a speaker and instructor, Jim has shared his skills and experience related to film, storytelling, and photography including as a featured speaker on video storytelling at ESTO, the U.S. Travel Association's premier annual learning and knowledge-sharing conference.
